Unicorn Theater Trip

We went to the Unicorn Theater and saw 2 performances, the first performance was called I, Cinna. I didn’t really understand this performance, but i knew that it had something to do with the death of Julius Ceaser, it was performed by Tim Crouch. But what stood out to me was the use of music in the performace, as it was used in a way to indulge the audience and help the performer. I also liked how props were placed in a specific way, and where it places, as it was easier for the performer to get to. There was a part in the play where the performer, was reading a chicken, and taking bits and pieces out of the chicken. It was a grotesque thing to see, as i nearly felt like throwing up.The way that technology was incorporated into the performance, was nice to watch and made sense to as to what happened next. The performer was clear, which meant that the audience could very clearly understand him. Towards the end we see the perform playing two different roles which was unusual but made sense. through out the whole performance he was narrating what was happening, and was always in control of where the story was going.

The next performance we saw, was The Bee In Me, this Performance was about informing children about serious situations, and what they should do in them. The Performers were Emily Burnett, James Russel- Morley and Akshay Sharan. This performance started off quite weird

Research For Children’s Theater

What is children’s Theater

A term employed to denote the performance of plays by professional actors for a children’s audience. These plays are usually constructed along conventional lines using writers, directors, designers and occasionally puppetry, music and dance. The plays may include some form of seated vocal participation. The term usually distinguishes work for children under 12 years of age as opposed to the term ‘young people’s theatre’, which includes work aimed at teenagers.

In the first half of the twentieth century, children’s theatre in Britain amounted to occasional productions with spectacular visual effects mounted for short seasons, often at Christmas time in large commercial theatres, exemplified by Peter Pan (1904) by J. M. Barrie or Where the Rainbow Ends (1911) by Clifford Mills and John Ramsey. The content of such plays was often myth or fantasy, and frequently drew on well-known literature for its source. As regional repertory theatres developed they regularly produced the few classics from the repertoire, such as Maeterlinck’s The Bluebird or adaptations of popular books such as Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, in addition to the traditional Christmas pantomime.

The Sock Puppet

My group had already decided on the theme that we wanted do, which was sibling rivalry. We had to make a story which had a moral at the end, which children could learn from. Our story-line was two siblings arguing over the last doughnut being eaten .
Then the brother wishes for his sister to go away, since she ate his last doughnut, then the mum tell the brother off. All of a sudden nan comes in complaining about the noise, and tells the siblings about what happened when she wished for her brother to go away. the mum tells both siblings to apologies to each other, but they don’t since the sister did’t want to apologies, and then she sends them to bed.
Then when both sibling are asleep, the other sibling gets kidnapped, by Abraham Lincoln who sprinkles the dust that make children go away on the sister. When the next day comes the sibling who survived, is waking up and realizes that their sister is missing. He calls his mum and Nan and tells them that the sister is missing. The nan tells them about what happened when she wished for her brother to go away.
Then they all go to the library, searching for the book to go away land once they have found the book the end up in go away land, and are met by Abraham Lincoln

they go on an adventure to go away land and encounter (double act) go and away
